At Kensington International School, we understand that many of our children are learning English as an additional language. We recognise the importance of providing tailored support to help children develop their English skills confidently and effectively. Our EAL teacher works closely with children, families, and staff to ensure every learner feels supported in their language journey.
Our EAL provision includes a combination of push-in and pull-out sessions across both the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and the Primary. In EYFS, these sessions remain play-based, fostering natural language acquisition through creative and engaging activities. In the Primary, pull-out sessions focus on individual EAL targets, while push-in support is provided during class inputs and independent work. Targeted vocabulary support linked to classroom learning further helps children build their confidence, understanding and communication skills.
We use the NASSEA Framework to assess and monitor each child’s progress termly, setting clear and achievable goals. This ensures that every child receives personalised support and that their language development is celebrated at every stage.
