As part of their half-term enquiry, “What comes from an egg?”, Year 1 children explored this concept further through their specialist Art lessons, creating imaginative alien egg sculptures.

Children began by making their own paper pulp clay using tissue paper, glue, and a small amount of baby oil. This process introduced them to how artists can manipulate everyday materials to construct three-dimensional forms, as they carefully shaped and refined their textured egg structures.

In the following lesson, the sculptures were developed through colour and pattern. Using acrylic paint markers, children applied repeating designs such as zig-zags, waves, and stripes, strengthening their understanding of pattern, control, and composition.

Through this project, children developed key artistic skills in sculpture, pattern-making, and fine motor control, while encouraging the children to imagine what strange creature might hatch from their egg!
