As part of our term theme Year 2 explored how buildings can be designed to be kind to the planet. This project was part of their STEAM learning, combining science, design, creativity, and teamwork. Their learning objective was to work collaboratively to build a 3D model of an eco-friendly structure using recycled materials.

The children began by studying real eco-friendly structures and identifying features such as roof gardens, rainwater collectors, solar panels, and recycled materials. They then created their own labelled designs for an eco-home, bridge, shelter, or tower.

Next, working in small groups, they brought one design to life using only recycled and reused materials.

This display showcases both their design plans and the final 3D models. The children demonstrated imagination, problem-solving, and teamwork while thinking carefully about how their ideas could help protect our planet.
